THE THREE PHASES OF CHRIST’S WORK OF ATONEMENT ON EARTH SUMMARIZED

Jesus said: “I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.”
John 9: 4, Authorized Version.

From His prophesied baptism to His crucifixion, Jesus, the Creator incarnate into human flesh and blood nature, accomplished His appointed work and mission on earth within the specified time of three and a half years according to the 70-week prophecy of Daniel 9 24-27. His work of atonement, at-one-meant, in three phases, is summed up below:

Elisha’s Three Successive Different Prayers of Faith

(Based on: 2 Kings 6: 8-33; as told in Prophets and Kings, ch.21)

Before Elijah, only the second man after Enoch (the seventh of the godly patriarchs from Adam), was translated, God hand-picked Elisha to succeed, continue and expand on Elijah’s prophetic and reformation ministry. Elisha’s father was an affluent yet God-fearing farmer whose household were among “the seven thousand who had not bowed the knee to Baal during the time of well-nigh universal apostasy of Israel during the reign of king Ahab and queen Jezebel, his wicked and cruel heathen wife. See 1 Kings 19: 1-10, 11-20.

To underscore our focus today on faith versus fear, we cite the examples of two faith giants, Moses and Elijah, compared and contrasted to Christ’s temptations, who at their weakest moments, which were few were few and far in between yet momentous, allowed their faith to be temporarily overcome by fear. They yielded to the temptation to fear. Anytime and every time we yield t0 any temptation we sin against God. The following is quoted from Prophets and Kings:

How God Chose Gideon’s Elite Force of Three Hundred Men

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me.” Ezekiel 3: 17, vs 18-21; cf. 33: 1-20.

The gospel-prophet said: “His watchmen are blind, they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. Yes, they are greedy dogs which never have enough. And they are shepherds who cannot understand; they all look to their own way, everyone for his own gain, from his own territory.” Isa. 56: 10, 11, NKJV.

The counterfeit watchmen are the unfaithful, cowering, self-serving religious shepherds of the flock “who cannot understand,” spiritual guardians of the people, pastors, ministers who are not proclaiming God’s warning messages today. God further describes them as “dumb dogs that cannot bark,” “lazy and greedy dogs which never have enough.” If ever!

Revealed! The Fowler’s fastening Cords and Snares!

“I will say unto the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. Surely He will deliver thee from the snare of the fowler.”
Ps. 91: 2, 3, K.J.V.

Here’s more: “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of a snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Ps. 124: 7, 8. “Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.” Prov. 6: 5. “The days of visitation are come, the days of recompense are come: Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred. A Christian once said that when he reached heaven he expected to meet with three causes of wonder. (1) He would wonder to find some that he did not expect to be there.(2) He would wonder not to see some that he expected to meet, and lastly, he would wonder most to find so in worthy a sinner as himself in the Paradise of God.
