Heathenism Adopted by the Church during Thyatira Stage

    “IN THE SIXTH CENTURY the papacy had become firmly established. Its seat of power was fixed in the imperial city, and the bishop of Rome was declared to be the head over the entire church. Paganism had given place to the papacy.  The dragon had given to the beast ‘his power, his seat, and great authority.’ Rev. 13: 2. (see Appendix). And now began the 1260 years of papal oppression foretold in the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation (Dan. 7: 15; Rev. 13: 5-7).  Christians were forced either to yield their integrity and accept the papal ceremonies and worship, or to wear away their lives in dungeons or suffer death by the rack, the fagot, or the headsman’s axe. Now were fulfilled words of Jesus: ‘Ye shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for My name’s sake’ (Luke 21: 16, 17).

We are standing on the threshold of the Crisis of the Ages!

The first angel’s message: Fear God and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Revelation 14: 6, 7, K.J.V.

Ellen G. White wrote in Patriarchs and Prophets, pp. 275-277:

    “There is coming rapidly and surely an almost universal guilt upon the inhabitants of the cities [like Sodom, Gomorrah, Nineveh, etc. in OT times] because of the steady increase of determined wickedness. The corruption that prevails is beyond the power of the human pen to describe. Everyday brings fresh revelations of strife, bribery, and fraud; everyday brings its heart-sickening record of violence and lawlessness, of indifference to human suffering, of brutal, fiendish destruction of human life. Every day testifies to the increase of insanity, murder, and suicide.

Thyatira. “The origin and meaning of this name is uncertain. Some have suggested that Thyatira means “Sweet savor of labor,’ perhaps on the basis of the ‘works’ of the church set forth in v. 19.” . . . As applied to Christian history, the message to Thyatira is particularly appropriate to the experience of the church during the Dark Ages [538- 1798, A.D. of 1,260 years].

EPHESUS: THE FIRST CONDITION OF THE CHURCH

      To the angel of the church of Ephesus write:  ‘These things s says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven of the seven golden lamp stands (candlesticks, K.J.V).” Revelation 2: 1, N.K.J.V.

 

Let’s start from the very beginning of New Testament church history from the resurrection of Christ, followed fifty days after by the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon 120 prepared disciples (including Mary, the mother of Jesus, at an upper room at Jerusalem—last mention  of her in the Bible) to the close of the first century, or the death of the last apostle, john the beloved, writer of the “big” gospel epistle and the three “little epistles” with his name, and the Revelation, of course.

The Mysteries of the Seven Churches, Stars, and Golden Candlesticks
 
    Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this. The mystery of the seven starts which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lamp stands (candlesticks, KJV). The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lamp stands which you saw are the seven churches. Revelation 1: 19, 20 N.K.J.V.
 
By nature, whether in the prelapsarian (see Eve’s curiosity for the forbidden mysterious tree and its fruit) but definitely much more in the postlapsarian nature, human beings are magnetized and even mesmerized by things and occurrences that appear strange and sound mystical. “It’s magic,” as they say. As kids we loved to be regaled with fairy tales and spooky stories whether folklore, embellished local yarns or imported ones like Cinderella, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, etc. We never seemed to outgrow it, sad to say. Technology advances has rendered old spiritualistic ideas and mediums even more hypnotically alluring, as in a fatal attraction, because they are ridiculously lucrative as well.

The Seven Churches and Seven Stars of Revelation

Lord God Creator and the Lord’s Day.– It was on “the Lord’s day” (Rev. 1:10)—each seventh-day of the week, starting from His completed six literal days of creation, that the Creator rested, blessed, and sanctified the first seventh day of that first week and made the day for man, created the day before, christening the seventh day, and that day alone, with a proper name, the Sabbath day,” as thememorial day of the literal 6-day creation week (Exo. 20: 8-12).  Thus, from the very beginning, following the rule-of-first-mention, none need to be confused or misled as to what “the Lord’s day” refers to.
