WHO IS THIS CHILD IN SWADDLING CLOTHES?

December 25, 2019

MID-WEEK MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

WHO IS THIS CHILD IN SWADDLING CLOTHES?

Christ’s first disciples, filled with the Spirit of Inspiration, answer this question. In eloquent strains they repeat the prophecies concerning Christ: ADAM will tell you, it is the Seed of the woman that shall bruise the serpent’s head. Gen. 3:15.

Ask ABRAHAM, he will tell you, It is “Melchizedek King if Salem, King of peace. Gen.14:18. JACOB will tell you, He is Shiloh of the tribe of Judah. ISAIAH will tell you, “Immanuel,” “Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isa.7:14; 9:6.

PRAYER

December 23, 2019

FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

PRAYER.

Jesus said: “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray. . . . that they may be seen by men. Assuredly I say to you, they have their reward.

But when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. But when you pray do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do.

Lord, I Want to be a Christian. But What Kind?

Lord, I Want to be a Christian. But What Kind?

“Lord I want to be a Christian, in my heart.” So goes the opening lyrics of that simple yet moving spiritual, likely composed in 1750s Virginia by enslaved African Americans moved by the preaching of evangelist Samuel Davies, first published in 1907. (See Wikipedia). I first heard that song when I was in the grades back in old PUC and still can sing it today. These words are still repeated today, even without singing its melody our aloud, for, as it says, “in my heart.” But this time it is with growing skepticism expressed in this legitimate question: What kind of Christian?  As some say, “Will the real Christian please stand up?” “Oh no, not you! Not you, too.” Then who?

IGNORANCE NO EXCUSE

December 18, 2019

MID-WEEK MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

IGNORANCE NO EXCUSE.

To neglect is to reject. Negligence is a serious problem. “The truth and the glory of God are inseparable; it is impossible for us, with the Bible within our reach, to honor God with erroneous opinions.

Many claim that it matters not what one believes, if his life is only right. But the life is molded by the faith. If light and truth is within our reach, and we neglect to improve the privilege of hearing and seeing it, we virtually reject it; we are choosing darkness than light.

HOW DANIEL OVERCAME AND WAS BLESSED WITH WISDOM

December 16, 2019

FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

HOW DANIEL OVERCAME AND WAS BLESSED WITH WISDOM.

“When Daniel was in Babylon, he was beset with temptation of which we never dreamed, and he realized he must keep his body under. He purposed (chose, decided, committed, willed) in his heart that he would not drink if the king’s wine or eat of his dainties. (Dan. 1:8).

He knew that in order to come off a victor, he must have clear mental PERCEPTIONS, that he might DISCERN between right and wrong. While he was working on his part, God worked also, and gave him ‘knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” Dan. 17.

The Listless Unconcern Over Another Gift from Heaven

Generic church and specific denominational histories clearly reveal that the remnant people or chosen ones of the last days identified at the tail end of the long prophetic chain that began in Genesis and ends in Revelation are: (1) “they that keep the commandments of God and faith of Jesus” and (2)  “have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy.” Rev. 14: 12; 12: 17; 19: 10.

Ah, the “spirit of prophecy” and the “spirit of Christmas!” It is to the latter distinction of “the spirit of prophecy” and as a natural extension of our running topic on the mystery of the incarnation and the nature of Christ— the Gift of all gifts,  that we refer to as we address this 2019 Christmas season—where “gifts, gifts and more gifts” are in all lips, whether good or bad. And what gifts are appreciated or ignored.

HOW WE BECOME CONQUERORS

December 11, 2019

MID-WEEK MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

HOW WE BECOME CONQUERORS.

Jesus said, “I am the true Vine. . . . Every branch that does not bear fruit is cast away, and every branch that bears fruit He PRUNES, that it may bear MORE fruit. . . .By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” Matt. 15:1,2,8, NKJV.

What kind of fruits? See Gal.5:22-26. When your faith wavers and are tempted to give up, remember God permits divinely-calibrated, divinely-measured-and-controlled obstacles and trials in order to test, develop and perfect faith, not discourage us! Thus: “When we are hedged about on every side, this is the time above all others to trust in God and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYING FOR THE SERIOUSLY SICK OR TERMINALLY ILL

December 9, 2019

FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

PRAYING FOR THE SERIOUSLY SICK OR TERMINALLY ILL.

“The Scriptures says that ‘men ought to pray; and not to faint.’(Luke 18:1); and if ever there is a time when they feel their need of prayer, it is when strength fails and life itself seems slipping from their grasp. Often those who are in health forget the wonderful mercies continued to them day by day, year after year, and they render not tribute if praise to God for His benefits. But when sickness comes, God is remembered.
