St. Columba of Ireland was a Sabbath-keeper

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FIVE Part IV

St. Columba of Ireland was a Sabbath-keeper

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

When religion is good, it will take care of itself; when it is not able to take care of itself, and God does not see fit to take care of it, so that it has to appeal to the civil power for support, it is evidence to my mind that its cause is a bad one.” –

“Letter to Dr. Price” by BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, sage of the Continental Congress

“Professor Andrew Lang says of them [churches set up or inspired by St. Patrick]:

‘They worked on Sunday, but kept Saturday in a Sabbatical manner.’  —‘A History of Scotland from the Roman Occupation,’ Vol. I, p. 96. New York: Dodd, Mead, and Co., 1900.

“Dr. A. Butler says of Columba:

‘Having continues his labors in Scotland thirty-four years, he clearly and openly foretold his death, and on Saturday, the ninth of June, said to his disciple Diermit: ‘This day is called the Sabbath, that is, the rest day, and such will it truly be to me; for it will put an end to my labors.’ —‘Butler’s Lives of the Saints,’ Vol. I, A.D. 597, art. ‘St. Columba,’ p. 762. New York: P. F. Collier.

“In a footnote to Blair’s translation of the Catholic historian Bellesheim, we read:

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

A lie travels round the world while Truth Is putting on her boots.

CHARLES HADDON SPURGEON,Truth and Falsehood

For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth through all generations. Psalms 100:5, K.J.V.

We digress a bit from our close focus on our series on the five wise and five foolish virgins of the parable in order to address an issue regarding this day, that, when seen from a larger perspective,

Why Choose to be a Foolish, not a Wise Virgin? – Part 3

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FIVE Part III

Why Choose to be a Foolish, not a Wise Virgin? – Part 3

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

A man is too apt to forget that in this world

he cannot have everything. A choice is all that is left him.

H. Matthews, Diary of an Invalid

______

Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the Lord.  Jeremiah 9: 23, 24, N.K.J.V.

“This is the most precious reproof and encouragement, the most important lesson for every soul that is trying to serve God

Five are Foolish, Five Wise of the Ten Virgins – Part 2

 FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FIVE Part II

Five are Foolish, Five Wise of the Ten Virgins – Part 2

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

And he is oft the wisest man,

Who is not wise at all.

William Wordsworth, The Oak and the Broom

————

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.  And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.  And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet himSee Matthew 25: 1-13.

   “Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly;

Five are Foolish, Five Wise of the Ten Virgins

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FIVE Part I

Five are Foolish, Five Wise of the Ten Virgins

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Some are wise, and some are otherwise.

-Old Proverb, Anon

Being a spiritual “virgin” does not automatically guarantee predestinated irreversibility that one somehow is rendered incapable of yielding to temptation and is above   foolishness all because of two stark realities: Satan is yet to launch his final campaign in desperate confederacy with all his agencies of evil spirits and wicked men against the faithful of the remnant church, we are still making choices, and, as free moral agents, are capable of changing our minds and altering our previous and present covenants and even firm convictions. This is at the

Noah, Elijah, Jonah & John the Baptist’s Message: Repent!

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FOUR & FORTY– Part X

Noah, Elijah, Jonah & John the Baptist’s Message: Repent!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Errors, like straws, upon the surface flow;

He who would search for pearls, must dive below.

-JOHN DRYDEN, All For Love

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus, “testing Him, asked that He should show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said to them, ‘When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; ‘and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’

God’s Love is for ‘Every Nation, Kindred, Tongue, and People’ for All Time, not Just on Valentine’s Day

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FOUR & FORTY– Part IX

God’s Love is for ‘Every Nation, Kindred, Tongue, and People’ for All Time, not Just on Valentine’s Day

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject of ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it.

– Samuel Johnson, famous English lexicographer

Apostle Paul’s famous love chapter, 1 Corinthians 13 concludes on the 13th verse: And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these three is love ”—not faith nor hope! This love, certainly never eros, not even the nobler philos, is alone tightly bundled with Biblicalfaith, which always “works by love” (Gal. 5: 6,)  “the hand that appropriates Christ’s merits and remedies for sin” (DA 175), and that hope  grounded in God’s word and promises (Rom. 15: 4; Titus 1: 2, etc.). This belongs to those who possess it by living experience, not mere talk.

What shall I do to inherit eternal life?

FRIDAY MORNING MANNA

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER FOUR & FORTY– Part  IXX

‘What shall I do to inherit eternal life?’

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK:

“Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made them upright;

but they have sought out many inventions.”

King Solomon, Ecclesiastes 7: 29, K.J.V.

This is the question those who are convicted by the Holy Spirit will ask, not the popular yet unbiblical question: “Are you saved?” Such questioners force the issue by even demanding, “It’s answerable by either a Yes or No.” The Creator of the heavens and the earth,
