Blind Spot: Why seeing is not always believing

Because it pleases us, we believe what we want to believe—even if the preponderance of acceptable evidence and the testimony of credible witness prove otherwise. While unbelief is the obvious symptom, the unconverted heart is the not-too-obvious but real problem. To make matters worse, we misdiagnose the symptom as the cause and try to “cure” it only to be met with temporary relief, if at all, and the same if not a worse situation prevails. Thus untreated, it eventually reaches a deadly “point of no remedy.”

The Acts of Apostleship Continues Until the Work is Done

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER SEVEN – Part 23

The Acts of Apostleship Continues Until the Work is Done

Ye are are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men; forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart. 2 Corinthians  3: 2, 3, K.J.V.

Great Controversy by Ellen G. White, (1911 ed.), pp.  54-56:

“In the sixth century the papacy became firmly established. Its seat of power was fixed in the imperial city, and the bishop of Rome was declared to be the head over the entire church. Paganism had given place to the papacy [the great apostasy of the church in the union of church and state]. The dragon [pagan Rome] had given to the beast ‘his power, and his seat, and great authority.’ Rev. 13: 2.  And now began the 1260 years of papal oppression foretold in the prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation Dan. 7: 25; Rev. 13: 5-7. CHRISTIANS were forced to choose either to yield their integrity and accept the papal ceremonies and worship, or to wear away their lives in dungeons or suffer death by the rack, the fagot, or the headsman’s axe.

THE PROPHETIC TIMETABLE FROM THE COVENANT WEEK TO 538 A.D.

“It suits the policy of Satan that men should retain the forms of religion if but the spirit of vital godliness is lacking. After the rejection of the gospel, the Jews continued zealously to maintain their ancient rites they rigorously preserved their national exclusiveness, while they themselves could not but admit that the presence of God was no longer manifest among them. The prophecy of Daniel (9: 24-27) pointed so unmistakably to the time of the Messiah’s coming, and so directly foretold His deaththat they discouraged its study, and finally the rabbis pronounced a curse on all who should attempt a computation of time [of the seventy-week prophecy]” –E. G. White, Great Controversy (1911), p. 378.

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER THREE – Part XVII                                                                                                                                    THE PROPHETIC TIMETABLE FROM THE COVENANT WEEK TO 1844 (Continued)

The last prophetic week or seven literal years of the Covenant week of Daniel 9: 24-27 began with the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist as “the Lamb of God,” Christ “the Anointed” the equivalent of the Hebrew Mashiach, the promised “seed of a woman” (Gen. 3: 15; Gal. 4: 4, 5). After completing His prophesied work exclusively in Palestine, among His own chosen people—as the “Teacher come from God” (John 3: 2), the “Prophet like Me, raised up from your midst, from your brethren” (Deut. 18: 15, 18), they, in strange collusion with their hated Roman masters temporarily united, and crucified Him “in the midst of the week, or three and half literal years after, A.D. 31. John the beloved disciple records this plain gospel truth: “He came to His own, and His own received Him not.” John 1: 11, K.J.V.  (see verses 1-14).

The remaining three and a half years witnessed the disciples—the Twelve and the seventy—continuing Christ’s work as He commanded them, particularly after the endowment of the Holy Spirit’s power at Pentecost, fifty days after His resurrection. In addition, they now proclaimed with unwonted power in Jerusalem the glorious truths clustering around His crucifixion, death, and resurrection.

TWO LAYMEN DISCIPLES TESTIFY TO THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

See Luke 24: 13-33. We may never be called to occupy a prominent place in Christ’s work but if we are earnest and honest believers in Him, we are His disciples with whom He walks and talks with through the Holy Spirit as we walk our personal dark, lonely “road to Emmaus.” But in time, we can also tell a wonderful story of our walk to Emmaus and say, in retrospect, when hindsight is 20/20, “Did not our hearts burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?”

Christ is even now walking and talking with us, though we don’t immediately hear or recognize it, perhaps because of dwelling upon the dark shadow of the cross instead of its glorious, resurrection side! The beloved apostle says: “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1: 2-5, N.K.J.V.

MOSES AND ELIJAH TESTIFY TO CHRIST’S TRANSFIGURATION

Like that of the two different exact mountain sites, where Aaron, Israel’s first high priest, then later, Moses, Israel’s greatest leader, died and were buried—the precise geographical location of where Christ was transfigured is likewise described by Wikipedia as “one of the unknowns of the New Testament.” Their editors were right.

Transfigured in the K.J.V. (Matt. 17: 2; Mark 9:2) is from the Greek metamorphoo, “to transform (lit. or fig.), metamorphose, change.” Metamorphose is from the Greek meta, “beyond, over” plus morphe,“form.” Here’s why these will remain unrevealed to fallen man: the first two were in order to prevent ancient Israel from yielding to the temptation to render idolatrous worship—not only over the dead bodies but also of converting their burial sites into holy shrines. Second, the silence of the Bible on the actual location of the transfiguration speaks for itself. It is the significance of the event regarding vital truths–not the location—necessitating the glorious appearance of two heavenly human agencies already in heaven—Moses and Elijah.

TWO SUPERNATURAL AGENCIES WORKING FOR OR AGAINST US

In this mini-series on angels—both the heavenly and the evil ones—we aim to:

    1. Become even more conscious of and discerning of the two kinds of angels contending against each other right in our midst every moment of the day. They are:  a) our guardian-recording angels, belonging to the loyal two-thirds of the heavenly host under the command of Michael the Archangel—Jesus Christ’s title as their Commander-in-Chief (Rev. 12: 7-9; Dan. 10: 13, 21; 12: 1; Jude 9), and their appointed work in the plan of redemption and in the cosmic conflict, so we can intelligently co-operate with these supernatural ministers, avoiding doing anything that may grieve them away.

For when “the wall of protection,” departs from us, we are left as sport of: b) the fallen angels, the devils, the evil spirits, numbering one-third of the original number who lost the first war, in heaven (Rev. 12: 4) who are under the command of “the great dragon, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world.” Rev. 12: 9.

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part XXV

A Loving People

The New Commandment of the Third Angel’s Message.  Jesus said, “This is My commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.  Ye are My friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.” John 15: 12-14, K.J.V.

Christ, through John, author of the gospel bearing his name, the three small epistles, and the last book of the Bible, wrote to the churches:  “Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye have heard from the beginning. . . .Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you; because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.  He that saith he is in the light andhateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.” 1 John 2: 7- 9.  John continues, “He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and ye know no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” 1 John 3: 14, 15. “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 1 John 4: 20.
