FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

IDOLATROUS INFATUATIONS: BELSHAZZAR’S FALL

See Daniel 5:1-29. “Weighed in the balances and found wanting.” Verse 27

“No misfortune is so great as to become a worshipper of a false god. No man/woman is in such miserable darkness as he/she who has lost his way to heaven. It seems that an infatuation is upon him/her, for he has a false god. To turn this worship of a human, fallen, corrupt human beings in earth, to the only true object of worship seems a hopeless task. [thats how overpowering fatal obsession and infatuation is].

“There is in our time CONTINUAL repetitions of BELSHAZZAR’S feast and BELSHAZZAR’S worship; and BELSHAZZAR’S sin is repeated when the HEART, which God requires to be given to Him in pure and holy devotion, is turned away from Him to worship a human being, and the lips are used to utter words of praise and adoration which belongs alone to the Lord God of heaven.”

NOTE: How many songs, poems and communications, spoken or printed in this ungodly spirit will be revealed by the records of the books in heaven].

“When the affections God claims to cluster about Him are made to center around earthly things—A WOMAN, A MAN, or in ANY EARTHLY THINGS [pets, etc.],—God is superseded by the object which ENCHAINS the senses and affections, and the powers which were solemnly dedicated to God are bestowed upon a human being which is defiled with sin [Sin is transgression of God’s law].

“Men and women who once bore the image of God, but are lost by DISOBEDIENCE and SIN, He means to RESTORE again through them ‘becoming partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust’ [2 Pet.1:4] . And when men and women devote their God-given powers to unholy purposes, to minister to lust, God is dishonored and the actors are ruined.”

“When engaged in man-and-woman worship, REMEMBER that there is the same WITNESS present as at the feast of BELSHAZZAR.” E.G.White, Testimonies to Ministers, p. 435.

Use this Friday Preparation day to examine our own hearts to see what other “idols” and “other gods” we are still secretly cherishing. May the Holy Spirit guide and enlighten us all.   NMF
