 Christ’s Forty-day Fast and Temptation

A.D. 27: John the Baptist, Christ’s prophesied forerunner, yielding to Christ’s gentle yet firm request, buried Him beneath the waters of the Jordan. “And straightway coming up out of the water,” Jesus “saw the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit like a dove descending upon Him.” (Gabriel told Zacharias the priest, John’s father that the child would be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother’s womb, and would go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah “to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1: 8-17).

Type means “By way of example, RV; “By way of figure,” RV margin. Type is defined as “a figure, emblem, or symbol; a symbol or figure of something to come; a pattern.” Figure as something “to prefigure; to foreshow; to represent by typical or figurative resemblance; a pattern, emblem, type, image or imitation” A type is a literal representation of a spiritual fact.”  Taylor G. Bunch in his book, “Exodus and Advent Movements in Type and Antitype,” published by Teach Services Inc., p. 7, sets the tone of these series with these thoughts:

The Significance of Number Forty in the Bible

Forty is the numeric symbol of test, testing; probation.

I. FORTY DAYS

Length of the Flood . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Gen. 7: 17, N.K.J.V.
“Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth [fifteen cubits upward, vs. 20].” “And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.” v. 24. A Biblical month is 30 days.

Biblical Numerology: NUMBER THREE- Part XLX

 The ThIrd Person of the Godhead

 

One of the deadliest deceptions of the last days designed to “deceive, if possible, the elect” (Matt. 24: 24) is that the Holy Spirit is merely a divine “power,” “breath,” or “essence,” not a Person as much as the Father and Christ are distinct persons making up the heavenly Council of the Godhead. I avoid using the word “Trinity” as it has caused or has been made to be an unwarranted cause for false accusations of worshipping a “triune god.”  The Authorized Version uses “Godhead,” meaning, “that which is divine,” not angelic much less human. And only the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are divine. Notice the three instances the Godhead is mentioned in the Bible:

There are generally three “sabbaths” over which Judeo-Christianity is still currently divided over. These do not include the ceremonial “new moon sabbaths” which were celebrated monthly, not weekly or yearly as with the seven annual sabbaths under the ceremonial law. The 1888 Crises

Two major crises had reached a head in this watershed year, both directly bearing upon the message and work of proclaiming the third and the fourth angel’s messages of  Revelation 14: 6-12; 18: 1-5. One was in Adventism of the Advent Movement, the other in U.S. Congress. Both took place in America, the symbolical beast with lamb-like horns of Revelation 13.  At first blush, the Adventist crisis had nothing to do with anyone outside the pale of Adventism, until we briefly review church history.
