HOW THE PATTERN MAN WALKED THE TALK

February 24 2020

FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:

HOW THE PATTERN MAN WALKED THE TALK.

“He that saint he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” 1 John 2:6, KJV.

“Christ carried out in His life His own teachings. He manifested consistency without obstinacy, benevolence without weakness, tenderness and sympathy without sentimentalism. He was highly social, yet He possessed a reserved dignity that did not encourage undue familiarity.

His temperance never led to bigotry or austerity. He was not conformed to this world, yet He was not indifferent to the wants of the least among men. He was awake to the needs of all.” (MS 32,1902). “Jesus rebuked intemperance, self-indulgence, and folly; yet He was social in His nature. He accepted invitations to dine with the learned and noble, as well as the poor and afflicted.

He gave no license to scenes of dissipation and revelry, yet innocent happiness was pleasant to Him.”(ST 11-22-1877). “From earliest years to manhood Christ lived a life that was a perfect pattern of humility and industry and obedience. He was always thoughtful and considerate of others, always self-denying.

He came bearing the signature of heaven, not to be ministered unto, but to minister [serve]. The unselfish life of Christ is an example to all. His character is a pattern of the characters we may form if we follow on His footsteps.”(MS 103, 1903).  This is what it also means to “follow the Lamb withersoever He goeth” and in “whatsoever He doeth” in heaven and on earth. Thus we become like Jesus “every day and in every way.” -NMF
