The Incarnation Gift
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3: 16
What does this very familiar verse actually mean?
The increasing light that a more in-depth study of the mystery of the incarnation, by its inherent nature, naturally zeroes into the word “gave” and then moves outward. In one fell swoop the central problem of sin and its eternal consequences, and the one-and-only, once-and-for all solution for eliminating it, forever, are herein stated and defined, in general terms. It is the gospel remedy. Its reason and central driving force are God’s perfect, just, righteous and unconditional hatred for sin on one side, and on the other, His perfect love–-divine, excelling, exceeding, immeasurable, unconditional and eternal. It urges the elevating thoughts of: what and who was given, to whom, when, where, how, the value, quality, warranty and longevity of this gift–and its expected benefits and results, both for the giver and receiver.
