FROM YOUR PASTOR’S DESK:
THE SPIRITUAL âwwwâ: WATCH, WORK & WAIT
Jesus not merely suggests or recommends, but commands and warns His disciples to âWATCH and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.â Matt. 26:41, KJV.
For all who have already âdecided to follow Jesusâ sometime ago and this part of the antitypical end-time disciples, the same warning applies but ten times more urgent because âSatan knows his time is shortâ and has been blanketing the churches and whole earth with his âtime of the endâ deceptions and temptations. If you donât know or are not sure what they are, then all the more urgent it is to âwatch and pray.â
Since we are now âliving, moving, and having our beingâ (Acts 17:28) under this âjudgment hour,â the most solemn period of earthâs six thousand year history (announced by the âfirst angelâs messageâ since 1840, Rev. 14: 6), and ultimate salvation is individual, not corporate or predestined, then let us seriously âWORK OUT our own salvation with fear and trembling,â as âco-laborers with Godâ (Phil. 2: 12, 13; 1 Cor. 3:9), in willing, clear-minded, and full-hearted surrender to Christâs revealed will.
Thus we obtain His offered divine grace and power to both âwill and to do His good pleasure,â knowing that âfaith without works is deadâ (James 2: 17-26), i.e., in vain and utterly worthless.
Biblical âfaith works by loveâ (Gal. 5:6) and this âtruth sanctifies the soulâ (John 17:17). More importantly, faith without works is not merely âdead,â like some lifeless object or thing but is one of Satanâs most insidious, end-time soul-destroying error called presumptionâthe very COUNTERFEIT of genuine faith, a terrible sin, for, âwhatsoever is not of faith is sinâ (Rom. 14:23).
Furthermore, regarding the essential work that must be done by all who will be saved in Godâs chosen way (not âmy wayâ), Jesus said, âThat thou doest, do quicklyâ (John 13:27).
Quickly here is not rushed or haphazardly but without delay or procrastination. Why? âThe night cometh,â He said, âwhen no man can workâ (John 9:4).
For when this spiritual
night has fallen upon the soul, all admonitions, prayers, pleadings, lamentations, tears, regretful repentance, and zealous attempts âto redeemâ lost opportunities, wasted talents and especially precious time, will have been in vain; too late.
Then, in contemplative silence, learn to WAIT with âthe patience of the saints,â beginning DAILY, in the wee hours of the morning, pausing in your thoughts throughout the day, while at work, to turn heavenward and listen to âthe still small voiceâ speaking to your conscience, saying, âThis is the way, walk ye in it,â all others lead to failure, heartache, loss, pain, suffering and even perdition.
Then âmeekly WAIT,and murmur notâ that may not interfere with recognizing with spiritual discernment how God âworks in mysterious ways His wondrous works to performâ in you and for others. It is much safer and wiser (not âsmarterâ) to wait on the Lordâ while the impulsive-compulsive âfool rushes in where angels fear to tread.â
Above all, WAIT and âbe patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman [farmer] waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receiveth the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; establishing your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh!â James 5:6-8, KJV.
WAIT for âthe Lord of the harvest.â He will surely come as He promised. Never leave the âharvest fieldâ and the specific lot and work assigned to you unfinished till He calls you to ârest from your labors and your works follow youâ (Rev. 14:13), or, when He finally comes with âall the cloudsâ of angels.
The King of kings returns with His reward of eternal life for all who WATCHED as faithful sentinels and trusted âWATCHMEN of the night,âstationed on the strategic lookout posts on the âWALLâ of Godâs immutable law; those who WORKED faithfully, without reservations or complaining as co-laborers with Christ in the work of soul-saving and proclaiming earthâs final merciful warning messages; those who, while patiently âwaiting upon the Lord,â âprayed without ceasing,âbut also âsearched the Scriptures daily whether those things were soâ (Acts 17:11) âfor âin them (the Scriptures) ye think ye have eternal life, and are they which testify of Meâ (John 5:39). As Godâs messenger said, âOf what value is it to pray when there is need of work?â (E.G. White, GAG 307)?
The Christian who is preparing for his âfuture,â called eternity, and for his eternal home, the âplaceâ Jesus went âto prepareâ for His faithful (John 14:1-3), which is in the ânew heaven and new earthâ (Rev. 21: 1-5; Isa. 66:22,23) are ever conscious of the stark reality that: âThe world is not a parade ground, but a battlefield.â
The Bible emphasizes âcontending,â âfighting,â âovercoming,ââpressing towards the markâ
or goal,â âstriving,â âstruggling,â âwarring against,â and âwrestlingâ and being âsober and vigilant,ââ-not celebrating, dancing, âeating and drinking,âfeasting, surfeiting, partying, âmarrying and being given in marriageâ (Matt. 25:38) or fatally contented in spiritual lukewarmness. (Rev. 3:14-16).
On the contrary, the âapple of His eye,â His âbride,â the âchosen,â âthe remnant of the seed of the womanâ who âkeep the commandments and the faith of Jesus,âand âhave the testimony of Jesus which is the Spirit of prophecyâ (Rev. 12;17: 14: 12: 19:10), are teamed up with largely-invisible âangels that excel in strength.â This is the genuine Lordâs army, including the elite special forces of âaggelosâ messengers bearing aloft the âblood-stained banner of Prince Emmanuel upon which is inscribed âthe commandments of God and the faith of Jesus,ââthe âold gloryâ national flag as it were, of Christâs kingdom, His true church of the last days.
The multiple counterfeits and bitter enemies, minor and main ones led by Antichrist–ranging from the fanatical cults and secret societies to openly militant monotheistic or monotheistic world religions, who use âcarnal weapons of warfareâ (military, political, modern technology, psychological, or biological warfare) against their perceived ânational enemiesââwho are existential threatsâ to their religion.
God’s people put on “the whole armor of God,â the âarmor of righteousnessâ(Eph. 5: 10-18; 2 Cor. 6:7). They are daily “fighting the good fight of faithâ(1 Tim. 6:12), gaining personal triumphs in âthe battles of the Lord where champions are few.â They âendure hardness, as good soldiers of Jesus Christâ (2 Tim. 2:3), being âstrong in the Lord and in the power of His mightâ (Eph. 6:10) and âquit themselves like strong menââ(1 Sam. 4:9). Bless all, NMF
