HOW MANY CLASSES OF ANIMALS ARE THERE?- Part I

Sounds trivial? Why ask this question at such a critical time when we ought to be focusing more sharply on the crucial issues of the closing events of earth’s history? Simply because it’s part of them, as we shall see.

First this: Pope Francis was recently quoted as saying that animals, particularly our beloved pets, have souls that go to heaven. Later they say that he was misquoted. See follow up story December 13, “Did Pope Francis really say all animals go to heaven?” by Brandon Ambrosino: www.vox.com). Rick Gladstone of the New York Times, December 14, (www.bostonglobe.com.) wrote (words in italics mine):

“Pope Francis has given hope to gays, unmarried couples and advocates of the Big Bang theory. Now, he has endeared himself to dog lovers, animal-rights activists and vegans. . . . Charles Camosy, an author and professor of Christian ethics at Fordham University, said it was difficult to know precisely what Francis meant, since he spoke in ‘pastoral language that is not really meant to be dissected by academics.’ But asked if the remarks had caused a new debate on whether animals have souls, suffer andgo to heaven, Camosy said, ‘In a word: Absolutely.’

A WILDERNESS OF TEMPTATION AND A GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE

Thank God! There is growing class of people upon earth who consider each day a day of Thanksgiving and spiritual growth—not merely a holiday that precedes “Black Friday that kicks off the start the wild Christmas shopping season”—that’s by their own words, not mine. Gratefully and joyfully, every true Christian—the spiritual Jew “whose circumcision is not of the flesh but of the heart” (Rom. 2: 28, 29), daily petitions God’s throne of grace for fresh provisions for the battle and the promised deliverance and victories over sin and temptation in and through Christ for that day and that day alone (1 Cor. 15: 57). The immediately thank God for answering their prayers. Do we belong to this class? As in the type, their numbers have and always will be in the minority.

Or are we part of the vastly numerically superior class—the constant murmurers, sighers, and complainers who seem to have lost all reason and ability to thank and praise God for His unnumbered unmerited favors and blessings. They are the antitypical hard-hearted, ungrateful Israelites, so wonderfully delivered by God’s miraculous acts from their centuries-long Egyptian [sin] bondage and were in the process of being de-programmed of their acquired slavish and idolatrous habits and tastes; were being tested, trained, and fitted by God in their Wilderness passage and experience, not merely to inherit the “land flowing with milk and honey” but more specially to be God’s representatives to the heathen Canaanites of the earthly Promised land—what today is the whole country west of the Jordan known as Palestine.

THE TWO WITNESSES AND THE TWO MAJOR PROPHETIC BOOKS

Daniel and Revelation are the two major inextricably-intertwined prophetic books of the Bible; the former in the Old, the latter in the New that all should be studying now instead of so many other books. They bear the core combined messages of God’s perfect love for sinners and perfect hatred for sin; divine mercy and divine righteousness and justice of the eternal gospel before earth’s probation closes.

“Daniel and Revelation are one; one is a prophecy, the other a revelation. The former is a book sealed, the latter is the book that is opened.” – Manuscript Releases No. 28, Vol. 1, pp 99-100.

These were divinely-designed to enlighten and fortify the minds of God’s people, intellectually and spiritually against Satan’s modus operandi in his last campaign against God’s law and against all who would remain faithful to Him. “And the dragon was enraged with the woman [the true church through the ages], and he went to make war with the remnant of her seed [rest of her offspring], who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Rev. 12: 17.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit: Have we received it?

Apollos and the Filling of the Spirit. – First, a quick background of Apollos:

Greek Apollos, a contraction of Appolonious [or Apollodurus]. A Jewish convert to the message of John the Baptist, described as being diligent, fervent, and “an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures” (Acts 18: 24, 25), born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. After his conversion he became an itinerant evangelist (chs 18: 24, 27: 19:1).

While preaching at Ephesus he met Aquila and Priscilla, Christian Jews who instructed him in the tenets of Christianity (ch 18: 26, 28). After this Apollos went to the Roman province of Achaia, taking with him a letter of recommendation from the church at Ephesus (v 27). While in Achaia he preached with success in the city of Corinth (chs 18: 28; 19:1), and because of this abilities became popular with a certain faction that began to exalt him, as opposed to other groups which exalted Paul, Peter, or Christ (1 Cor. 1: 12).

The Holy Spirit: do we really know Him? – Part VI

HOW TO RETAIN THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 3: 1-21. If from a genuine conversion one has satisfied the conditions Christ specified to Nicodemus on how to enter the kingdom of God—by watery death-by-immersion-baptism (Rom. 6: 3-6; Matt. 3: 13-17), and receiving the Holy Spirit, experiencing Him as the Bible describes His role, various manifestations, and work in the plan of salvation, as Christ’s Successor—how do we retain His fullness so that He can continuously bear in us His nine fruits (Gal. 5: 22, 23) to maturation on the difficult way and narrow gate that results in character perfection (Matt 7: 13, 14; 5: 48)?

First, the Holy Spirit is the only Godhead-appointed Imparter of the divine nature to all who, by child-like faith receive Jesus Christ as their Substitute and surety,

The Holy Spirit: do we really know Him? – Part V

For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and the holy place, with him who has a  of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the hearts of the contrite ones. Isaiah 57: 15, N.K.J.V.

Self-renunciation, condition of receiving the Holy Spirit. Of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ’s first coming, it is said that:

The Holy Spirit: do we really know Him? – Part IV

“The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him. The spirit of wisdom and [the spirit of] understanding, the spirit of counsel and [the spirit of] might, the spirit of knowledge and the [spirit of] fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears.” Isaiah 11: 2, 3, N.K.J.V.

The Holy Spirit: do we really know Him? – Part I

Much preaching and exposition is made upon the visible “fruits of the Spirit” (Gal. 5: 22-23) yet little is personally known of the invisible “Tree” who bears these nine fruits! Do we actually possess and are experiencing the ripeninggraces of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness faith, meekness, and self control in our own lives? Why not? How are these to be obtained, retained, and developed into our character?
