Ellen Gould Harmon (Nov. 26, 1827-July 16, 1915) and twin sister, Elizabeth, was born in Gorham, Maine, and reared in the faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She had great ambitions to be a scholar at a young age but was injured at 9 years old. At the age of 12 she enrolled in a ladies’ seminary but was unable to continue due to ill health. A minister’s reading of Acts 12 greatly impressed her at that time. In 1840 she heard William Miller lecture for the first time at Portland, Maine.

In the summer of 1840 she attended a Methodist camp meeting and found Christ at that occasion and was taken into the Methodist Church on probation. In June 1841 she listened to a lecture by Miller again. She also became was convinced that that Biblical method of baptism is by immersion, not sprinkling—a pagan practice. In June 26, 1841 a Methodist minister baptized her into the Methodist Episcopal Church.

“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7: 20, K.J.V. (See verses 15-29). Jesus repeated and illustrated this nature-based, simple yet all-encompassing principle to Nicodemus, himself a teacher of Israel being an intellectual, influential, and extremely wealthy member of the Sanhedrin who reverently addressed Christ as, “Rabbi, we know that Thou art a Teacher come from God” during his one-on-one private evening interview with Jesus regarding the most elementary principles of the kingdom of God, as Jesus taught it. See John 3: 1-21.

A review of the history of the proclamation of the first angel’s message of Revelation 14 (1840-1844) that warned the churches and the world for the grand and awesome terminus of the Bible’s longest time prophecy is absolutely indispensable. Among others, it clearly shows the difference of the “fruits” manifested between the proclamation of the time prophecies up to 1843 and 1844 and all time prophecies proposed after 1844. The former message and work produced fruits similar to all genuine revivals and reformation of the past; the latter produces wide-eyed excitement resulting in fanaticism, a penchant for the sensational and conspiratorial then follows confusion, doubt, skepticism, and rejection of God’s Word. One is of “faith that works by love,” the other, on feelings and Futurism. The following is quoted from Vol. 4 Spirit of Prophecy by Ellen G. White, (1884), pp. 222-226 (read up to p. 229 to complete the chapter and compare with the next chapter, “The Second Angel’s Message”:

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. 1 Timothy 4:1, K.J.V.

Our minds and senses are daily being bombarded with a wild onslaught of unprecedented distractions, attractions, deceptions, and temptations which were prophesied to take place in “the latter days” which include false prophecies and its fanciful interpretations relating to time and specific individuals as being the Antichrist, etc.

Doubtless, this is the generation that the prophets were shown and wrote about living in the closing hours of earth’s probation since after 1844, the beginning of the investigative judgment in heaven. Yet how few in the Christian world and even among the remnant, at this late hour really understand its awful nature and are rearranging priorities around it; or worse, even want hear about it. They ridicule the humble messengers who raise these specific warning as fanatics and trouble-makers. Such was the attitude towards God’s prophets and messengers of yore:

Jesus said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power. Acts 1: 7, K.J.V.

“The times and seasons God has put into His own power. And why has not God given is this knowledge? —Because we would not make a right use of it if He did. A condition of things would result from this knowledge among our people that would greatly retard the work of God in preparing a people to stand in the great day to come . . . . Jesus told His disciples to ‘watch,’ but not for definite time. His followers are to be in the position of those who are listening to the orders of their Captain: they are to watch, wait, pray, and work, as they approach the coming of their Lord; but no one will be able to predict just when that time will come; for ‘of that day and hour knoweth no man.’ You will not be able to say that He will come in one, two, or five years, neither are you to put off His coming by stating that it may not be for ten or twenty years. . . . Get ready! Get ready! Get ready! “Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel! Amos 4: 12. Jesus said: “Be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matt. 24: 44. Paul declared: “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly thatthe day of the Lord [the real ’Lord’s Day’—not Sunday!] so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as thief.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-4.

And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire. The mighty angel–Christ Himself. “The mighty angel who instructed John was no less a personage than Jesus Christ. Setting His right foot on the sea, and his left on the dry land, shows the part which He is actingin the closing scenes of the great controversy with Satan. The position denotes His supreme power and authority over the whole earth. The controversy has waxed stronger and more determined from age to age and will continue to do so, to the concluding scenes when the masterly working of the powers of darkness shall reach their height. Satan, united with evil men, will deceive the whole world and the churches who receive not the love of the truth [see 2 Thess. 2: 9-12, K.J.V.] But the mighty angel demands the attention. He cries with a loud voice. He is to show the power and authority of His voice to those who have united with Satan to oppose the truth.

NO PROPHETIC TIME EXTENDS BEYOND 1844

We also have the prophetic word made sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawn, and morning star rises in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1: 19-21, N.K.J.V.

More than anything else, prophecies fulfilled are the timeless monuments impervious to corrosion and eloquent witnesses throughout the history of mankind of God’s perfect wisdom and knowledge of the end from the beginning as “the Alpha and Omega,” and His ultimate direction and control over the affairs of man and the earth (Daniel 2: 21) without suppressing or withholding the individual will—the power of choice He Himself created into man as a free moral agent to discern and choose between righteousness and unrighteousness, truth and error;

THE PROPHETIC TIMETABLE FROM 538 A.D. TO 1844 (Continued).

Steve Jobs (1955-2011) left large footprints of accomplishments in the sands of the tech-savvy realm during these closing stages of earth’s history—with many quotable quotes to boot. One of them (as quoted in the seventh paragraph below) should urge most of us lesser-intellectually endowed fellow mortals to seriously re-examine our present attitudes, values, priorities, and future plans and aspirations in the light of three things, namely:

First, the mind-boggling scientific and technological advances with their unprecedented opportunities to do good as well as evil in the world, which his creative genius, as one of the giants of the information age helped shape and accelerate. As co-founder of Apple, a brief rundown of some of his direct and indirect contributions to our too-rapidly-increasing “tech-savviness” and the heretofore unknown forms of addictions, etc., that it has spawned and the overly-interconnected global society that spelled the death knell for the once-sacrosanct space of personal privacy—include the Apple II (the world’s first marketed personal computer; the iMac; the iBook; the I Pod; iTunes; I Phone, and glass staircases, etc.

THE PROPHETIC TIMETABLE FROM THE COVENANT WEEK TO 538 A.D.

“It suits the policy of Satan that men should retain the forms of religion if but the spirit of vital godliness is lacking. After the rejection of the gospel, the Jews continued zealously to maintain their ancient rites they rigorously preserved their national exclusiveness, while they themselves could not but admit that the presence of God was no longer manifest among them. The prophecy of Daniel (9: 24-27) pointed so unmistakably to the time of the Messiah’s coming, and so directly foretold His death, that they discouraged its study, and finally the rabbis pronounced a curse on all who should attempt a computation of time [of the seventy-week prophecy]” –E.
