Biblical Numerology: NUMBER THREE – Part XVII

CHURCH CREEDS OVER CHRIST’S CREED

John chapter 17 records Christ’s valedictory prayer to the Father in heaven for all His true disciples on earth. It embodies the Prince of Peace’s Creed for His true church through all time. Its end result is “the peace that passeth understanding” “which the world cannot give.” Phil. 4: 7; John 14: 27.

Many church creeds do not harmonize with the Bible and yet are upheld as gospel truth by its adherents. Their disharmony with one another through the centuries since after the relatively short spell of the early part of the Reformation in the Old World, and their confused state since then, is the evidence in itself. In desperation they have tried every man-made effort, idea, philosophy, science, and scheme in the grandest scale possible of confederacy to achieve “lasting” unity, peace, and prosperity, hanging their plighted hope on hooks that can only break, vainly hoping for the earthly glory of Solomon’s reign or the “glory that was Rome.”

PROPER PROPHETIC TIME-SETTED MOVEMENTS VS. UNBIBLICAL ONES

(Continued from last week): Ellen Gould Harmon first heard of the Sabbath truth from Joseph Bates (1790-1872), a retired sea captain who accepted the Advent doctrine in 1839 and the seventh-day Sabbath in 1845. Bates “became an apostle of the Sabbath truth. He often served as chairman at early conferences, and was the first conference president, being elected in Michigan in 1861. He ranged New England and north central states for years as an evangelist.” On August 30, 1846 Ellen married James White. By autumn of that year they began keeping the seventh–day Sabbath. In the summer of 1849 James White began to publish Present Truth at Middletown, Connecticut. The Advent Review, a “periodical-like publication (was) put out by James White and his associates in the summer and fall of 1850 in six sixteen page issues and a 48-page special, reviewing the teachings of the leaders in the Millerite Advent Movement of 1840-1844. This publication should not be confused with the Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald which was started in November, 1850, following the eleven issues of Present Truth (cited above) published in 1849 and 1850.” (Read more of Ellen G. White on Wikipedia)

TIME-SETTING AFTER 1844 HAVE, AND WILL FAIL IN PREDICTIONS (Continued)

Where there is no vision, the people perish. Prov. 29: 18. Ellen Gould Harmon (Nov. 26, 1827-July 16, 1915) and twin sister, Elizabeth, was born in Gorham, Maine, and reared in the faith of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She had great ambitions to be a scholar at a young age but  was injured at 9 years old. At the age of 12 she enrolled in a ladies’ seminary but was unable to continue due to ill health. A minister’s reading of Acts 12 greatly impressed her at that time. In 1840 she heard William Miller lecture for the first time at Portland, Maine.

In the summer of 1840 she attended a Methodist camp meeting and found Christ at that occasion and was taken into the Methodist Church on probation. In June 1841 she listened to a lecture by Miller again. She also became was convinced that that Biblical method of baptism is by immersion, not sprinkling—a pagan practice. In June 26, 1841 a Methodist minister baptized her into the Methodist Episcopal Church.

TIME-SETTING AFTER 1844 HAVE, AND WILL FAIL IN PREDICTIONS (Continued)

“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7: 20, K.J.V. (See verses 15-29)Jesus repeated and illustrated this nature-based, simple yet all-encompassing principle to Nicodemus, himself a teacher of Israel being an intellectual, influential, and extremely wealthy member of the Sanhedrin who reverently addressed Christ as, “Rabbi, we know that Thou art a Teacher come from God” during his one-on-one private evening interview with Jesus regarding the most elementary principles of the kingdom of God, as Jesus taught it. See John 3: 1-21.

A review of the history of the proclamation of the first angel’s message of Revelation 14 (1840-1844) that warned the churches and the world for the grand and awesome terminus of the Bible’s longest time prophecy is absolutely indispensable. Among others, it clearly shows the difference of the “fruits” manifested between the proclamation of the time prophecies up to 1843 and 1844 and all time prophecies proposed after 1844. The former message and work produced fruits similar to all genuine revivals and reformation of the past; the latter produces wide-eyed excitement resulting in fanaticism, a penchant for the sensational and conspiratorial  then follows confusion, doubt, skepticism, and rejection of God’s Word. One is of “faith that works by love,” the other, on feelings and Futurism. The following is quoted from Vol. 4 Spirit of Prophecy by Ellen G. White, (1884), pp. 222-226 (read up to p. 229 to complete the chapter and compare with the next chapter, “The Second Angel’s Message”:

TIME-SETTING AFTER 1844 HAVE, AND WILL FAIL IN PREDICTIONS (Continued)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. 1 Timothy 4:1, K.J.V.

Our minds and senses are daily being bombarded with a wild onslaught of unprecedented distractions, attractions, deceptions, and temptations which were prophesied to take place in “the latter days”  which include false prophecies and its fanciful interpretations relating to time and specific individuals as being the Antichrist, etc.

Doubtless, this is the generation that the prophets were shown and wrote about living in the closing hours of earth’s probation since after 1844, the beginning of the investigative judgment in heaven. Yet how few in the Christian world and even among the remnant, at this late hour really understand its awful nature and are rearranging priorities around it; or worse, even want hear about it. They ridicule the humble messengers who raise these specific warning as fanatics and trouble-makers. Such was the attitude towards God’s prophets and messengers of yore:
