A WILDERNESS OF TEMPTATION AND A GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE
Thank God! There is growing class of people upon earth who consider each day a day of Thanksgiving and spiritual growth—not merely a holiday that precedes “Black Friday that kicks off the start the wild Christmas shopping season”—that’s by their own words, not mine. Gratefully and joyfully, every true Christian—the spiritual Jew “whose circumcision is not of the flesh but of the heart” (Rom. 2: 28, 29), daily petitions God’s throne of grace for fresh provisions for the battle and the promised deliverance and victories over sin and temptation in and through Christ for that day and that day alone (1 Cor. 15: 57). The immediately thank God for answering their prayers. Do we belong to this class? As in the type, their numbers have and always will be in the minority.
Or are we part of the vastly numerically superior class—the constant murmurers, sighers, and complainers who seem to have lost all reason and ability to thank and praise God for His unnumbered unmerited favors and blessings. They are the antitypical hard-hearted, ungrateful Israelites, so wonderfully delivered by God’s miraculous acts from their centuries-long Egyptian [sin] bondage and were in the process of being de-programmed of their acquired slavish and idolatrous habits and tastes; were being tested, trained, and fitted by God in their Wilderness passage and experience, not merely to inherit the “land flowing with milk and honey” but more specially to be God’s representatives to the heathen Canaanites of the earthly Promised land—what today is the whole country west of the Jordan known as Palestine.

TWO SUPERNATURAL AGENCIES WORKING FOR OR AGAINST US
In this mini-series on angels—both the heavenly and the evil ones—we aim to:
1. Become even more conscious of and discerning of the two kinds of angels contending against each other right in our midst every moment of the day. They are: a) our guardian-recording angels, belonging to the loyal two-thirds of the heavenly host under the command of Michael the Archangel—Jesus Christ’s title as their Commander-in-Chief (Rev. 12: 7-9; Dan. 10: 13, 21; 12: 1; Jude 9), and their appointed work in the plan of redemption and in the cosmic conflict, so we can intelligently co-operate with these supernatural ministers, avoiding doing anything that may grieve them away.
For when “the wall of protection,” departs from us, we are left as sport of: b) the fallen angels, the devils, the evil spirits, numbering one-third of the original number who lost the first war, in heaven (Rev. 12: 4) who are under the command of “the great dragon, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world.” Rev. 12: 9.

TWO HEAVENLY AGENCIES WORKING FOR OUR SALVATION
The Two Heavenly Agencies of God vs. the Two Earthly Agencies of Satan
The God of hosts is on the side of His people on earth through the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Godhead, and the holy angels, His ministering spirits. Let all plead that these two heavenly agencies will continue their tireless and ceaseless work every moment of the day and night for our salvation, simultaneous with the closing work of atonement and cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary by Jesus Christ, our merciful High Priest, Mediator, Advocate, and righteous Judge during this antitypical Day of Atonement.
“Solemn are the scenes connected with the closing work the atonement. Momentous are the interests involved therein. The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years [since 1844, Dan. 8: 14] this work has been in progress. Soon—none know how soon—it will pass on to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in review. At this time above all others it behooves every soul to heed the Savior’s admonition: ‘Take heed, watch and pray: for you do not know when the time is.’ Mark 13: 33. ‘Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.’ Rev. 3: 3, N.K.J.V.”– E.G. White, The Great Controversy, 1911, p. 490.

THE TWO WITNESSES AND THE TWO MAJOR PROPHETIC BOOKS
Daniel and Revelation are the two major inextricably-intertwined prophetic books of the Bible; the former in the Old, the latter in the New that all should be studying now instead of so many other books. They bear the core combined messages of God’s perfect love for sinners and perfect hatred for sin; divine mercy and divine righteousness and justice of the eternal gospel before earth’s probation closes.
“Daniel and Revelation are one; one is a prophecy, the other a revelation. The former is a book sealed, the latter is the book that is opened.” – Manuscript Releases No. 28, Vol. 1, pp 99-100.
These were divinely-designed to enlighten and fortify the minds of God’s people, intellectually and spiritually against Satan’s modus operandi in his last campaign against God’s law and against all who would remain faithful to Him. “And the dragon was enraged with the woman [the true church through the ages], and he went to make war with the remnant of her seed [rest of her offspring], who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” Rev. 12: 17.

MORE ON MOSES AND AARON
A correction needs to be made as we move on, and with it, gain more valuable insights into the joint work, peerless and profound experiences of Moses and Aaron in jointly leading ancient Israel to earthly Canaan. From these, both those in leadership positions and congregants of spiritual Israel today may derive instruction and inspiration. In our October 10, 2014 issue on Number Two–Part V, titled “Moses and Aaron,” my last sentence of the first paragraph stated: “At the end of their earthly sojourn, Aaron died first, cradled in the arms of Moses on Mount Hor where Moses buried him, alone.”
That was inaccurate. On this singular sad occasion, Moses was not alone. Eleazar, Aaron’s third son (Exo. 6: 23) was with them. He served as priest with his father and brothers during the wilderness wanderings (Exo. 28: 1, 44; Num. 3: 4; 16: 39; 19: 3). He outlived his elder brothers, Nadab and Abihu, whom God destroyed with divine fire for offering “strange fire before the Lord” (Lev. 10: 1-7). Eleazar, whose name means “God has helped,” was divinely-appointed to succeed Aaron. From father to son, man to man.
