Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part X

THE SYMBOLIC MEANING OF RAIN

“I have also spoken by the prophets. . . . and used similitudes (symbols, N.K.J.V.), by the ministry of the prophets.” Hosea 12: 10, K.J.V.

LeRoy E. Froom helps us understand why Omniscience through the prophets of Old Testament, and Christ, in the New often taught and revealed ever-increasing truth through similitudes, symbols, and types, particularly the prophecies (and parables):
“Wondrous are the ways of God, and matchless His provisions for the children of His love. By precept and promise, by fact and figure, He patiently discloses the plans and provisions of His grace—the Infinite meeting the limitations of our finite understanding. With unerring wisdom He uses

CHRISTMAS—A TIME TO HONOR CHRIST ALONE

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God . . . All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made . . .And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1: 1, 3, 14. Behold, a virgin shall be with a child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.”Matthew 1: 23, N.K.J.V.

“The story of Bethlehem is an exhaustless theme. In it is hidden ‘the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God.’ Rom. 11: 33. We marvel at the Savior’s sacrifice in exchanging the throne for a manger, and the companionship of adoring angels for the beasts of the stall. Human pride and self-sufficiency stand rebuked in His presence. Yet this was but the beginning of His wonderful condescension. It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man’s nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus accepted

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part IX

In the face of the rash to venerate those considered great men of the earth, the Christian is confronted with the truth that the Holy Scriptures has little to say in praise of men. Such is the propensity to lavish words of honor and glory, influenced by the cascading voices of the majority and the persuasive powers of public-opinion molders, to ascribe in prose and song, words of adoration and even titles that exclusively belong to the Creator and Savior of mankind, to his fellow sinner and mortal.

“Little space [in the Bible] is given to recounting the virtues of even the best men who have ever lived. This silence is not without purpose; it is not without a lesson. All the good qualities that men possess are the gift of God; their good deeds are performed by the grace of God through Christ.

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part VIII

As millions struggle over who the true Christian church is in these days, the remnant church of Bible prophecy is clearly identified: “Here is the patience the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” Rev. 14: 12, 13. To the faithful among them He says: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door [of the heart].

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with Me.” And then, this: “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Rev. 3: 19-22.-22. The “still small voice” of the Holy Spirit is still mercifully appealing to you and me!

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part VI

Calamities always seem to bring out the best and worst in men—heroic and magnanimous efforts in the former and shameless looting and opportunism in the latter. But they and many of us, too, still don’t get it, this late.

While Haiyan’s multi-dimensional devastation in the Philippines were and are still hot in the news feeds, the Chicago Tribune, Nov. 18headlined:  “Deadly storm spawns more than 80 reports of tornadoes in Midwest.” An old ditty says, “Never on a Sunday.” But as the Tribune reports:  “The scale of Sunday’s [November 17] deadly storm became clearer . . : 8 people dead in Illinois, hundreds of homes flattened and splintered, more than 8o tornadoes reported through the Midwest, 40 reports of large hail. Since 1986, there have been 194 tornado warnings issued on the month of November in Illinois : More than half of them, 101, were issued Sunday, according to the Chicago Weather Center . . . .

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part V

Resilient, patient, long-suffering, hospitable, hard-working, resourceful, religious, and forgiving to a fault as a people, “pliant as a bamboo, ” as the Filipino literary art critic and poet I. V. Mallari described in his essay, the Filipinos in the Philippines are still sifting through the horror that Typhoon Haiyan, or Yolanda (as known in the Philippines), left in its devastating wake exactly a week after our Christian Roman Catholic brethren celebrated their All Saints Day, November 1, All Souls Day the next day (their solemn feast commemorating those who died and are now in Purgatory). Halloween, celebrated by most other Christians, is the eve or vigil of All Saints Day.

If the death toll of more than 10,000 in Tacloban alone, provincial capital of Leyte Island, turns out to be correct, Haiyan would be the deadliest natural disaster ever recorded in the Philippines, packing record-breaking winds of 170 mph and causing tsunami-like storm surge to rise as high as 20 feet.

Are We Preparing for the Latter Rain?– Part IV

THE SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION
(All from the King James or Authorized Version unless otherwise indicated)

The gospel prophet defined the basic rule and diagnostic tool for ascertaining Bible truth and distinguishing it from the counterfeits of the “sayings and commandments of men” or by the “traditions of the elders” or by the “wisdom of this world.” He declared: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8: 20.

The means and process by which Bible truth is established and engraved in the heart and mind of true believers is not by “the popular will of the majority by surveys” or by the enforcement of church decrees by the civil power but by patiently gathering the preponderance of a “Thus saith the Lord” or “It is written” as Jesus Himself set the example in His battle with the devil.
